The Goats (Copy)

Our farm is home to over 60 goats – some old, some young, and some with special needs. We also have a sweet rescue donkey named JoJo, and two sassy lady ducks known as The Brownies. Our goats are mostly mixes of La Mancha, Alpine, Saanen, and Boer. Some already lived here when we bought the property in 2016, while others were born during our first year at the farm.

Their original purpose was dairy production, but after 6 years running the dairy we discovered that goats have a more valuable skill – they excel at making people happy. In December 2022, we closed our dairy operation to focus on immersive farm experiences where visitors have the opportunity to interact with our goats, discover their affection, and have a good time.

You can learn about our goat care practices here and we invite you to follow our goats on Instagram and Facebook. You can also meet them in person during our public events, private farm tours, or during visiting hours if you become a sponsor. Special needs goats

Meet the goats that require a little more work than the rest. Some of them have mobility problems, special dietary requirements, and some require ongoing medical treatment. They are not part of the larger herd of goats because they would get bullied. These guys are part of a group that we call The Yardies because they spend most of their day in the yard around the farmhouse where we can keep an eye on them all day long.

Anthony Davis

DOB: 4/5/2017. Nickname: Cutie Pie. Favorite food: Pumpkin. Best friend: Frankie. Personality: Very affectionate. Special needs: Anthony has CAE, a common viral disease in goats that causes debilitating arthritis. He gets medication for inflammation and pain management.

Boerhead

DOB: ~2008. Nickname: Borhems, Morgan. Favorite food: All the things. Best friend: Frolic. Personality: Very affectionate. Special needs: Boerhead is one of our oldest goats. She has squamous cell carcinoma and she gets her skin tumors removed about once a year.

Champ

DOB: 2/16/2017. Nickname: Champie. Favorite food: All the things. Best friend: his brother Trey. Personality: Very affectionate. Special needs: Champie is inconveniently sensitive to hay pellets. Eating them makes him vomit and his tongue sticks out of his mouth. He’s weird. His meals are chopped up veggies.

Frankie

DOB: 4/15/2017. Nickname: Franksters, Francis. Favorite food: Honey Nut Cheerios. Best friend: Anthony (but used to be Coconut). Personality: Attention seeker. Special needs: Frankie has CAE, a common viral disease in goats that causes debilitating arthritis. He gets medication for inflammation and pain management.

Frolic

DOB: 2015. Nickname: Handsome girl. Favorite food: All the things. Best friend: All the girls, not the boys. Personality: Friendly and very silly. Special needs: Frolic has squamous cell carcinoma. Our farm vet removed a few tumors in 2022 and we’re currently treating a few new ones. Frolic is also an intersex goat – she has both female & male genitalia. Everyone loves Frolic.

Janet

DOB: 4/28/2016. Nickname: Baby J. Favorite food: Bananas. Best friend: Mocha. Personality: Has the attention span of a fruit fly. Special needs: Janet had viral meningitis when she was young. Most of her neurological problems are resolved, but she still has difficulties drinking. She gets daily smoothies & electrolytes.

Luke

DOB: 4/17/2017. Nickname: Goat-Moose. Favorite food: Bananas. Best friend: His mom, Priscilla. Personality: Very affectionate. Special needs: Luke is abnormally big and he has one leg considerably longer than the rest. As a consequence, the leg has deformed and it appears to be somewhat painful. We are currently exploring options for treatment.

Peppercorn

DOB: 5/28/2017. Nickname: Peps. Favorite food: All the things. Best friend: Her mom, Pickle. Sadly, her mom died of heart disease. Personality: Friendly but prefers to be alone. Special needs: Peps is a very feisty tiny goat. She got into a fight and injured her neck causing damage to the nerves on one of her front legs. She walks with a severe limp. And she still fights with everyone all the time.

Zahra

DOB: 5/4/2016. Nickname: Z. Favorite food: All the things. Best friend: Her kids, Dominique & Domino. Personality: Very affectionate. Special needs: Z got into a fight with another goat and one of her back legs got caught between the other goat’s horns. The leg twisted and broke in two parts and it also dislocated. Her leg healed but she will have to wear a brace for the rest of her life. She walks with a limp.
